Two Australian hotels have been named among the world’s 50 best hotels

The World’s 50 Best team – known for their influential lists of the world’s best bars and restaurants – ventured into the world of hotels for the first time last year.

The latest crew hotel list was announced in London last night. The Calile Hotel came in at 25th place (down from 12th on last year’s list) and won the title of Best in Oceania. The Tasman in Hobart also made the list at 49th place.

The voting is attended by 600 industry leaders, including hoteliers, travel journalists, luxury travelers and hospitality professionals.

Calile Co-Owner Catherine Malouf said: “Being selected for two years running is a significant validation of The Calile’s place on the global hospitality stage. This is… a victory for Brisbane as a destination and we are honoured to once again represent Australia and be recognised as a leader in the Oceania region.”

Since opening nearly six years ago, The Calile has made a name for itself with its bold, Miami-inspired design, signature Juliet balconies, and upscale dining. It’s also become a celebrity destination, welcoming everyone from Kourtney Kardashian to Her Ladyship Nigella Lawson (who called their croissants “the best ever”).

The Tasman Hotel opened in December 2021 and is acclaimed for its seamless blend of Georgian, Art Deco and modern architecture across its 152 rooms and suites.

Capella Bangkok took the top spot on the list, while Passalacqua in Lake Como, Rosewood Hong Kong, Paris’s Cheval Blanc and The Upper House in Hong Kong rounded out the top five. Also nearby, Desa Potato Head in Bali came in at 21st on the list.
