Police are expected to provide an update on the investigation on Monday.

The family said the boy had shown remarkable resilience despite going through a “traumatic and difficult” period.

“He’s already walking around, getting up and causing chaos,” his mother said.

“He’s such a strong boy and we are very, very proud of him.”

But the family continues to demand justice as the police investigation enters its third week. “This terrible event should never have happened,” the mother said.

“I hope that one day justice will be done.”

Police have previously described the incident as deliberate and unprovoked.

“It’s callous and cowardly,” said Inspector Paul Dalton.

“In 35 years of working as a police officer, I have never encountered a situation in which a child at such a young age and in such circumstances was the victim of an attack.”

The man was wearing glasses, a blue shirt, combat shorts, and a black hat.

He is believed to be between 30 and 40 years old.

A GoFundMe page for the baby has so far raised more than A$150,000 ($162,000).
