Former Allen, Texas union president charged with telecommunications fraud

The former president of the Allen firefighters union has been charged in federal court with fraud over nearly five years.

Jeremy Painkin is accused of using the Allen Professional Firefighters Association account for personal expenses, WFAA reports.

He was charged with sending e-mails containing false information, which constituted telecommunications fraud.

He headed the union for over a decade.

This had no impact on firefighters’ pensions or personal benefits in the city.

“Jeremy Pankin was employed by the Allen Fire Department from February 7, 2011 to May 12, 2015,” the city statement reads. “The Allen Firefighters Association is an independent advocacy group and does not provide pension funds or other direct financial benefits to Allen Fire Department personnel.”

If found guilty, Painkin could face up to 20 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, or both.
