3. Australian Army^rd The Townsville-based brigade will operate the majority of its new heavy armoured vehicles following a restructuring announced last year Strategic Defence Review. The new M1A2 SEPv3 Abrams main battle tanks are on the way from the United States and Hanwha Defence Australia recently opened their new factory.

On June 21, 27 Abrams were spotted on rail cars bound for Port Hueneme, California. A cargo ship would now be expected to deliver the vehicles to Melbourne, where they would be trucked to the Joint Logistics Unit in Bandiana.
