Officials celebrate opening of new industrial park in McIntosh County

MCINTOSH COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) – Economic growth and new jobs are coming to McIntosh County.

Local and state leaders gathered Wednesday to celebrate the completion of a project that has been years in the making.

WTOC held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday.

“This is a huge event in the history of McIntosh County,” said Georgia state representative Buddy Carter.

JB Harris Transport and Logistics officially welcomes Tidewater Industrial Park. Georgia State Representative Buddy Carter attends the ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday.

“Great location. Right between the Port of Savannah and the Port of Brunswick. McIntosh County is going to take off. I’ll tell you, as mayor Pooler, seeing the growth and being a part of that growth, that’s coming,” Carter said.

It’s a project that’s been years in the making. Josh Harris is president and CEO of JB Harris. He says McIntosh stood out to him.

“The development agencies have given us tremendous support to help us realize our dreams,” Harris said.

So what are the benefits for the people who live here?

“Tax revenues and jobs,” Harris said.

“We’ve already hired a number of local people and the fact that the job base continues to grow as the centre grows and we move into the second phase of development is probably the most exciting aspect,” said McIntosh County Council Chair Kate Karwacki.

Job offers for mechanics, welders, painters, managers and truck drivers.

“It’s all about these partnerships and everyone being willing to work together and putting aside the ‘me’ mentality… and putting the ‘we’ mentality first,” said Katarina Hoyt with the Darien-McIntosh Chamber of Commerce.

These words drive the mission of JB Harris and the growth of McIntosh County.
