East Fremantle star Zippy Fish among five West Australians hopefuls invited to AFLW Draft Combine in October

Top prospect Zippy Fish is among five West Australian hopefuls invited to the AFLW National Draft Combine next month.

The 18-year-old was the sole draft-age representative for WA in the U18s All-Australian team, alongside bottom-agers Olivia Wolwarans and back-to-back MVP Evie Cowcher, following a fruitless campaign by the black ducks.

Claremont’s Claudia Wright missed the championship with a broken leg, while South Fremantle’s Molly O’Hehir struggled with illness in all three matches, however, both managed to secure combine invites and are considered genuine draft fans.

Fish, Wright and O’Hehir will be joined by Taya Chambers (East Fremantle) and Lily Paterson (Swan Districts) for the three-day event held in Melbourne on October 4-6.

Following the national combine, eight West Australians will also take part in State testing to be held at the Gold Netball Center and WA Athletics Stadium on October 13.

South Fremantle’s Kate Newson, Noa McNaughton and Poppy Stockwell, East Perth’s Sabella Banks, Peel Thunder’s Holly Britton and East Fremantle’s Natasha Entwistle and Tiani Teakle have all been invited.

The national combine brings together 47 hopefuls from across the country to be interviewed by clubs and participate in physical testing, including the vertical jump, running vertical jump, 20-meter sprint, agility test and 2km time trial.

The Draft Combine for girls has previously been held solely as state-based events, with the evolution to a national combine following the 2024 AFLW Draft moving to a fully national model.

The AFLW combine will be held on the same weekend as the AFL Draft combine.
